TRT Grass Lake Spur to Lounge Rocks

The fearsome foursome (Allan, Janet, Esther, Jim)...getting ready to head UP the trail.

A 4.5 miler with a 1,200 foot elevation gain.

 

 

The trail winds up a moderate slope through sections of heavy forest and a jumble of beautiful granite boulders.  Here we are...making it up the trail.

And, the wildflowers were still bloomin'.

Then at Lounge Rocks...we met up with the Pony Express re-riders.

TRT Barker Pass North to Twin Peaks

8-14

A 3.2 miler round-trip with a 660 foot elevation gain.

 

This hike shares almost 50 miles with the Pacific Crest Trail

and is a popular  re-supply point for the TRT "thru hikers."

Great views of Lake Tahoe in the background.

 

Beautiful vistas of the mountains as we hike... 

 

...and the trail continues into large, moss covered pines.

 

Then emerges onto the top of a lava and ash ridge where

the trail is chiseled out of the lava bedrock.

 

 Heading over to the turn-around point...the massage lava rock.

 

...and Esther & Allan up on top.

 

We all made it. 

We all decided this was our favorite hike, so far.

 

 

TRT Tahoe City North to Cinder Cone

Another short hike...3.2 miler with a 600 ft. elevation gain...

a pleasant hike through woods...starting out on a fairly steep trail.

...and along ridges with panoramic views of lake Tahoe.

 A hike on the east short of Lake Tahoe...hiking with a

group of ladies.

A 3.5 miler round trip with a 250 foot elevation gain.

Another challenge hike from last year's list.

Hikes in July

Incline Lake Hike with the AAUW Ladies

Came across some interesting formations....we called this one Butt tree.

 

The wildflowers were still out....

TRT Full Moon Hike

7-11-14

Jim & Esther and Allan and I joined the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) Association

 and

signed up for 6 of their Challenge Hikes.

This hike was just one of the guided hikes to watch the moon rise up over the mountains

from Washoe Valley.

A real treat once we got to the top...wine and cheese.

Plan on going on more of these hikes now.
